An external oil tank gauge is a device mounted on the outside of a storage tank that provides a visual indication of the liquid level inside without requiring the operator to open or manually dip the tank. It typically consists of a float connected to a mechanical or magnetic indicator that moves along a marked scale as the fluid level changes. As the oil rises or falls, the float follows the surface, translating that motion to the external gauge through a lever, cable, or magnetic coupling. External gauges are commonly used on crude, condensate, or fuel oil tanks in production and terminal facilities, offering a safe, quick, and reliable way to monitor inventory and reduce exposure to vapors or spills.
